The Commission reviews complaints concerning the misconduct of judges of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
The Commission normally meets once a month to review all new complaints as well as any other matters within its jurisdiction.
In addition to its disciplinary function, the Commission has the responsibility to determine whether a sitting judge whose term is expiring, and who seeks a new term, is to be reappointed.
At any time prior to or not later than one (1) year after retirement, a judge may seek a recommendation for appointment as a senior judge, by filing with the Commission a request in writing for such recommendation.
