Friday, December 15, 2023

The Commission on Judicial Disabilities and Tenure congratulates Hon. Diane Brenneman, CJDT Vice Chair as recipient of the 2023 Suzanne Richards Award, presented by the Bar Association of the District of Columbia.

Judge Brenneman was unanimously selected by the Foundation Board of the Voluntary Bar Association to receive the award. Judge Brenneman was recognized for her many years of public service to the District of Columbia as a citizen, lawyer, judge, and retiree. She served in the DC Bar Pro Bono Program, the Family Law Representation Committee, as a trainer and mediator in several Family Court pilot activities, including the Child Protection Mediation Program and currently as a DC Bar representative member on the Commission on Judicial Disabilities and Tenure. The award was presented at the BADC Annual Awards Banquet and Gala, on Friday December 1, 2023.

Also honored at the event was Superior Court Chief Judge Anita Josey-Herring. Chief Judge Herring was recognized as the Judicial Honoree for her work in guiding the court through the pandemic and implementing a court reorganization plan for both in-person and virtual hearings. She was particularly noted for her support and encouragement of civil cooperation between both bench and bar members in working with each other to make the courts even more accessible to the public.
